I'm Byrne
I'm a writer, consultant, and writer focused on predicting and identifying—and causing—inflections in finance and technology. My background is somewhat unusual, but for a look at a personal inflection point, read over how I got hired as an analyst at a top hedge fund without a college degree. Since then, I've worked in cryptocurrency, spent a lot of time in the fintech space providing alpha-generating datasets and analysis to hedge funds, and investing on my own.
Right now, my main projects are:
- Writing a regular newsletter on finance and technology—recent posts include "Minsky Moments" in supply chains, writeups of new IPOs, interviews with controversial startup founders, and an assessment of vulnerabilities in retail investor behavior.
- Longer-form writing on Medium. Greatest hits include Peak California, the dangers of office perks, how Y Combinator unbundled Stanford, and one of the most-read writeups of the WeWork IPO debacle.
- Consulting, mostly helping companies accelerate their growth through content marketing and analyzing big datasets. reach out for more information.
- Investing, in public and private markets.
